Introduction
If you like customizing every electronic device you own (and almost everything else) with skins, fancy rhinestones and embellishments; have an eye for detail and your hobbies probably include clay modelling and constructing Gundam figurines; and it’s your dream to establish a career in designing products like the latest smart phones or action figures, getting a Degree in Product Design will help you get there.
The works of product designers could be seen anywhere from within a home to commercial buildings. Design work exists from sleek electronic devices like laptops to feminine cosmetic cases and containers. Inspiring to conventional, the designer has to conceptualize products that are not only visually appealing, but practical as well.
Product designers begin projects by conceptualizing creative engineering designs and fuse functional requirements with artistic elements. After brainstorming for ideas after receiving a job brief, the designer either works alone or in a team to draft out the blue prints of the required product with CAD software, and then develop models and prototypes for testing. Areas of specialty that a product designer can choose to specialize in include: scientific, medical, industrial, commercial and domestic products.
If it is your career plan to join the manufacturing industry with your design skills, get a Degree in Product Design to learn the necessary technical skills and gain industrial knowledge.
